Common Symptoms of a bad Rack and pinion:

• Vehicle pulls to one side
• Steering wanders side to side
• Lack of assist in one direction
• Leaks from seals or housing
• Clunking or popping noise
• Excessive, input shaft movement

Need To Know Basis:
• Using a suitable pressure gauge, check to
ensure pump is capable of producing
adequate pressure.
• Check for collapsed hoses that could potentially
cause a restriction.
• To remove debris from the system, perform a
complete flush using O.E. recommended fluid.
• To ensure proper fluid supply to power steering
pump, inspect remote reservoir (if equipped) for
any blockages.
• Inspect condition and tension of power steering
pump drive belt. Replace if necessary.
• Follow the O.E. recommended bleeding
procedure.
• Replace o-rings used in the fluid ports and
variable steering port (if equipped).
• Transfer all mounting hardware if replacement
unit is not equipped with new hardware.
• Install an in-line filter on return side to eliminate
the possibility of restrictions caused by fluid
contamination.
• Perform an alignment.
